    Combustion

    The only parameter of interest for improvement of combustion yield efficiency used to be oxygen (O2) measurement. However, partially or non combusted fuels were not monitored because it was not mandated to try to reduced their contents.

    Today and as mandated by new environmental regulations, industries dealing with combustion not only seek energy consumption optimization, but also environmental impact minimization.

    Measuring just oxygen is not sufficient for the task. Carbon monoxide (CO) must be measured as well. The boiler, fire heater or power plant operation manager can now rely on that dual measurement to meet both his/her energy consumption and environmental impact minimization goals.

    Such measurement must be precise, very rapid, very sensitive, and without interferences (cross response). Low maintenance operation and simplified sampling located as close to the control point as possible is a must.

    The Proceas CO COMBUSTION, based on the patented OFCEAS (Optical Feedback Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy) technology coupled to the patented low pressure sampling technology enables the measurement of CO and O2 in combustion operations.

    Measurement of these compounds (CO and O2):

    - is reliable;

    - is very low maintenance;

    - is insensitive to cross response phenomena (despite the very wide scale of concentrations measured, from ppm?s for H2S to 10's of % for CH4 and CO2);

    - has very low levels of detection;

    - has response times measured in seconds;

    - has a wide dynamic concentration range (e.g. H2S 0.5% at the beginning of the process to less than 10 ppm at the end of the process);

    - does not experience instrumental response drift (self-standardization);

    - does not require regularly schedule re-calibration (self-calibrating direct measurement);

    - does not require sample conditioning;

    - is a laser spectrometer capable of multi-components analysis.

    The same configuration of the Proceas CO analyzer can be utilized for safety applications. This configuration, called the Proceas CO SAFETY can measure CO in real time from 0 to 2,000 ppm) as an early detection device to avert the user to any system malfunction.
